Happy Tuesday, friends! I am going to start by saying holy moly I’ve had a tough month mentally. It’s always been my intention to be genuine with this blog and I think it’s important to share your struggles because it can sometimes come off as having everything put together and figured out and that is so not the case!! I went into this month thinking that the “New Year Motivation” train would come and pick me up but I’m still waiting. I was expecting to jump right in as soon as the new year began but instead sat waiting to be inspired. Well, I got an eye opener when I heard the quote during one of my 80 Day Obsession workouts, “Motivation does not create action, action creates motivation”. I was sitting waiting to take action as soon as I got the motivation, but really I just needed to start somewhere (anywhere!) and that would translate into getting motivation and inspiration.
With the new year mentality, we often bite off more than we can chew (hence why most resolutions fail), so I just tried to focus on three things.
1. Staying True to my New Year Resolutions. I did not want to accept failure and be another person that didn’t keep their resolutions!! Even on the days I didn’t have any motivation or inspiration for creating content, I was bound and determined to keep my resolutions.
3. I learned I need to lean into by tribe. As I was sitting there waiting for inspiration and motivation to hit I realized I was alone and trying to take on all my work and emotions on my own. Well shocker, I can’t do this on my own. Just talking about my struggles with my best friends made a world of a difference. By putting it into words through texts and talking it out, I was able to have my realization moment. It was only then I truly recognized what I needed to do to make improvements. I needed to talk it out to be able to have a clear mind to take action!
At the end of the day all we can do is try our best. Moments of drought and lack of motivation will always be there, but I’m here to tell you, you are not alone. Chances are when people look like they have everything put together and it all looks perfect, they don’t. Nobody is perfect!! That is real life. Let’s just try to be the best versions of ourselves every day. Here’s to not giving up on our New Year Resolutions, on ourselves or our dreams!!

If you saw on my Instagram last month I talked about doing the 21 Day Fix program with Beachbody on Demand. I’ve had a lot of people ask me lately how it went and if I stuck with it so I thought I’d write a blog post sharing my experience with you!
I found out about Beachbody on Demand from an inspiring Instagram mama, Alyssa. She was hosting a “Christmas CASH Dash” Challenge and I was immediately drawn to the idea that I could win money for working out! It was a 21 day challenge from December 11th-31st, so perfect for not over indulging in the holiday goodies. The program I did, 21 Day Fix, came with a daily workout schedule and tools to create a meal plan that would help you maximize results. I’ve seen work out promotions on Instagram and other social media outlets, but this one caught my attention at the perfect time.
Why I joined
I was a swimmer in high school and never had to worry about what I ate or had to think twice about how I’d get a workout in. When I got to college, working out became something fun I’d do with friends. We’d play a friendly game of soccer or go to the gym and jog around the track and chat. I was a lifeguard at the rec center and we were allowed to swim on our breaks so I took advantage of that too. I still didn’t have to worry about needing to work out though. Now that I didn’t have a coach telling me what to do for a work out, I didn’t know what to do so I ended up not doing much of anything! It got to the point where I could notice a difference in what not seriously working out for 4 years did to my body. Visually, I could see it when I looked at pictures, but the same clothes still fit, just a little more snug ;) It was how I felt that I noticed the most change. I didn’t feel good about myself and developed pretty bad self image issues. I didn’t make it any better when I would point out all the negative things about myself when I looked in the mirror and simply felt so uncomfortable in my own skin.
I was at our Catholic Student Center at school when our campus minister said a bible verse that really stuck with me - “You are fearfully and wonderfully made”. I turned to my faith to find more self love and boy did it make a difference. We are made to be the best versions of ourselves; spiritually, mentally and physically. It wasn’t until I started to love myself that I realized how much I needed to love my body. For me that meant eating better and the correct portions and working out. Before I would work out because I saw my body was changing and I didn’t want that to happen. I wanted to work out because I wanted to have those rockin’ abs again and a body ready for swimsuits at anytime. Well, there is a reason that isn't sustainable. It’s most sustainable when we work out because we love our bodies, not because we hate them.
Alyssa presented this challenge as a way to love yourself and give your body what it deserves. So reluctantly (because this was totally out of my comfort zone!) I signed up.
How it Went
Overall it went really well! For the challenge, we had to log a workout at least 5 days a week (my goal was everyday since it was a 21 day program and a 21 day challenge) and a Shakeology shake everyday. I am proud to say I logged 20/21 workouts and 21/21 shakes :) The only day I took off was Christmas Day!! (Which I felt guilty about but my husband reassured me it was okay lol). Overall I lost 4 pounds and a total of 10.75 inches.
As far as eating, this program put things into perspective. With the program I got color coded containers to know how much of a certain food group I was supposed to eat. It bases it off of your target calorie count, so for instance I knew I needed to eat 3 green containers of vegetables per day. The first week I stuck to the exact meal plan I had set for myself. I’m talking alarms on my phones to time out meals perfectly and every meal was pre-packaged (since I was traveling for work). The second week I let up just a bit (didn’t pre-pack every meal) but since I was at home I still cold portion things out and make healthier choices. The third week was a little trickier since it was Christmas and New Years (both big family gatherings in my family). From the two weeks before though I knew what my correct portions looked like and I was more aware of the food I was putting into my mouth. That’s not to say I didn’t indulge in Christmas cookies!! I did and they were delicious, but I just made sure I’d eaten all of my veggies for the day and that I only had one or two and not seven or eight.
I made sure to drink my shakeology shakes before I turned to any sweets because they helped curb my cravings. I chose chocolate and cafe latte flavor since I have a sweet tooth and love coffee, but there are so many flavors of shakes to choose from!
Would I do it again?
Absolutely. I enjoyed it so much I started 80 Day Obsession yesterday! I want to take this momentum and channel it toward improving even more. I’m starting to see results, not just on the scale or inches lost, but in how I feel in my clothes and how my energy levels have increased. That being said, I feel like this kind of program is just right for me. I tried going to the gym in my apartment complex, but since I didn’t know what to do for working out, that didn’t last long. I signed up for a YMCA membership but with no one else to go with, I wasn’t being held accountable or have someone to push me on the days I convinced myself it was okay to not go. I really like group classes (they make me work out harder and motivate me!), but I wasn’t finding any that clicked. With Beachbody, yes I am technically doing the workouts at home by myself, but the online support and motivation is what inspires me to show up and holds me accountable. I am also super competitive, the most competitive with myself, so I just try to be better than I was yesterday.
Is it worth the financial investment?
Coming from a newlywed entrepreneur, it is a LOT of money to invest in myself, but if I don’t think I’m worth investing in, who else will?
It was a lot to pay, but I looked at how it also made me save. With the meal plan and nutrition guidance, I was more intentional when I went grocery shopping so I was spending less overall. I also didn’t eat out at all or get coffee as much (and when I did it was black coffee and I added cinnamon, not my usual latte. HUGE price difference!) so that saved a TON of money. With my increase in energy I felt more motivated and creative to work which translates into more revenue!
It’s only worth it though if you use it and take it seriously. If you don’t take it seriously and skip workouts all the time and keep your not-so-healthy eating habits, then you probably won’t see the benefits as much, plain and simple. However, if you’re motivated and are FINALLY tired of giving up and feeling down in the dumps, then this could be just the program — 21 Day Fix or any program! — for you. OR, this is the motivation that you need to find a program, gym or something that lights you up and motivates you.
If you’ve been asking for a sign to get out of a funk, this is it. Now is the time to take care of yourself. Now is the time to invest in yourself. TODAY is the day to change your attitude and perspective. All it takes is that first step and the promise to be better than you were yesterday.
